LODD: Firefighter Robert (Bob) W. Hamel

The WSFFA extends our deepest sympathies to the Hamel family and Clark County Fire District 6 organization. May he and his contribution never be forgotten.

It is with great sorrow that Clark County Fire District 6 informs you of Firefighter Robert (Bob) W. Hamel's death which occurred on Thursday, July 25th. Bob's death was related to his duties as a firefighter; a presumptive illness determination (Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma), classifying it as a Line of Duty Death (LODD).

Yarnell Hill Wildfire Fatalities

The WSFFA is deeply saddened by the loss of the 19 firefighters killed while battling the Yarnell Hill wildfire in central Arizona. This is believed to be the deadliest firefighting toll for a wildland fire since 1933 and the most firefighters that have been lost in a single event since 9/11. We grieve with the nation at this devastating tragedy and our thoughts and prayers are with the Prescott Fire Department and the families of the fallen. Also, for the Incident Management Team and the personnel continuing to fight this very difficult fire.

Save the Date for the 91st Annual Conference and Fire School

Thank you to all who attended this year's Annual Conference & Fire School and helped make our 90th conference such a success! Please plan ahead to attend next year, June 5-7th, 2014: "Attend to Learn, Return to Serve".

Oklahoma Tragedy

Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone in Oklahoma tonight. At times like this, our colleagues in the emergency services are foremost in our minds. Despite suffering the same hardships as everyone else, they are on the job just like any other day. We salute their courage, honor their conviction, and pray for their safety.

National Volunteer Week

It’s National Volunteer Week, and WSFFA offers its thanks to everyone who volunteers to make their communities safer places to live. This year in particular, we are reminded that our local emergency responders' service, sacrifice and dedication come directly from their hearts. These countless daily unselfish acts make our world a better place.
